Newquay hotels for the most part tend to cluster around the centre of town, and for a town with such an incredibly vibrant, and sometimes noisy nightlife, it is important to bear this in mind when planning your stay. For those people looking for the quintessential Newquay experience, (surfing during the day and partying in town at night), we have recommended a couple of hotels in Newquay town centre. For others, who might want to try surfing but also want their Newquay hotels to offer a bit of peace and tranquillity, we have recommended a couple of hotels in Newquay town centre, but set back slightly – hotels which concentrate on the views and the comfort, whilst still being only the briefest of walks from the shops, bars and restaurants.
1. Glendorgal Hotel Newquay
Another Newquay hotel set slightly away from the town centre, and another hotel blessed with a wonderful setting, located as it is in 17 acres of private headland looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.
The Glendorgal offers panoramic views of the Cornish Coast, and most of the bedrooms themselves also look out on the coast. This is a wonderful three star boutique hotel facing Porth Beach, a secluded beach which is only the gentlest of walks away. Porth Beach offers the perfect sandy getaway, a million miles from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. Nevertheless when you fancy visiting town, it is only a brief stroll, (no more than a mile), to all the excitement and entertainment of the vibrant nightlife in Newquay. The hotel has a renowned Brasserie, which serves seafood and local Cornish dishes and is often packed out with people from the town as well as guests. The hotel also offers complimentary use of the health club, fitness area, swimming pool, sauna, solarium and hot-tub.
2. Best Western Hotel Newquay
Our first choice is a three star hotel in Newquay town centre; just far enough away to avoid the noise. It has been owned and run by the Young Family since 1927 and offers the perfect location, (half a mile from town), to relax and enjoy Newquay and the rest of Cornwall at your own pace. The staff are known for their welcoming and friendly service, and the rooms are extremely large and airy. The hotel has a peaceful ambience and the views are spectacular; it is worth asking for the sea-view rooms (particularly those with five turret windows). The food is always exceptional (they have an RAC dining award) and they offer all mod-cons from satellite TV to Wi-fi. Best of all is their proximity to the golden Tolcarne Beach, right in front of the hotel.
3. Hotel Victoria Newquay
For those of you looking for a hotel in Newquay town centre, the Hotel Victoria is right in the heart of the action. This is a three star hotel set on a cliff overlooking Newquay Bay and Great Western beach and even has direct access to the beach with their own lift. All of the bars, restaurants, surf shops and clubs are just outside, and yet the hotel itself offers a calm oasis from all of the excitement. A beautiful old Victorian building, it nevertheless offers all the modern conveniences including sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool as well as free Wi-fi. It has four restaurants; the Regency Restaurant, La Rochelle (serving French Cuisine), Senor Dicks (serving Mexican) and Buzios Steak House. The view of the Atlantic from the sun lounge is amazing, and if you can stretch to a luxury suite you’ll experience some of the best views of any of the hotels in Newquay.
4. Great Western Hotel Newquay
Another hotel in Newquay town centre is The Great Western. This is a wonderful two star hotel that offers excellent value for money, set within the very heart of Newquay and providing breathtaking cliff views, calming landscaped gardens and proximity to all the excitement of the town centre. If you want to be near to the surf schools and all of the nightlife, as well as experience spectacular sunsets from the rear terrace, then this is the hotel for you. The hotel’s bar and restaurant, Steam, serves a delicious blend of locally sourced Cornish food and Mediterranean dishes. Of all the hotels in Newquay, we think the Great Western offers the best value for money.
5. Headland Hotel Newquay
Our favourite hotel in Newquay, the Headland is something of an institution. This old red-brick grand dame with its high Victorian gothic architecture is Grade II listed and set on a site of scientific interest, (for the sheer number of fossils below). This four star Newquay hotel sits on the hill looking down below at the Atlantic breakers as they foam and froth along Fistral Beach. All of the rooms are impeccable; elegantly decorated, spacious and many offering panoramic sea views. The hotel offers all the modern conveniences and more, but what will really win you over are the architecture, the views, the log fires and the sumptuous dining, and a feeling that this is a hotel as they used to make them. The city centre is only a mile away but you might not want to leave this hotel with the stunning Fistral Beach offering brilliant surfing (it is perhaps Britain’s best know surfing beach) and swimming and only a few yards away.
